Storytelling For Kids (ages 8-11 years)

Thursday, April 5, 2018 1:00 PM 2:30 PM

Head to BCA this Easter for interactive, fun and cultural workshop. Embark on a fascinating journey through dance, movement, storytelling and traditional drumming techniques. Participants get a unique opportunity to hear the enthralling and legendary story of Deity Togbui Nyigbla, Patron of the Anlo-Ewe (Anlɔ-Eʋe) whose triumph made him protector of the traditional Anlo-Ewe (Anlɔ-Eʋe) state and an important figure in the ceremony of the Hogbetsotso.

Drawing inspiration from this story, the second part of this workshop encourages children to use clay-making to re-imagine how these different communities lived and worked together. From the villages and houses of the Ewe people to types of trades and professions such as the role of pottery within the Ewe society. Children will draw on their own creative powers to envision this past.

These workshops will be led by George Fiawoo, trained dancer, cultural teacher and established storyteller and an original founding member of popular and prestigious African village in Takely, Hertfordshire ‘The Aklowa Village’. He has performed African music and dance across countries in Europe, North America and the Caribbean and has appeared on TV programmes such as Blue Peter and The Generation Games.

£5

Workshops for ages younger children aged 5-7 years take place on Wednesday 4 April, 1.00pm-2.30pm. Find out more.
