FAQs

I am over 20 years old, can I still take part?

You must be 20 at the time of the Trials. If you happen to turn 21 between the Trial and Intensive, you will still be considered. For those selected to be in the Ignition Company, we will ask for proof of age. For anyone over 20, we would love to see you at one of Frantic Assembly’s public workshops.

I am under 16 years old, can I still take part?

If you are 15 at the time of attending a Taster or Trial, but will turn 16 before the Intensive, you will still be considered. If you will still be 15 at the time of the Intensive, we can put you on the reserve list to come to a Taster, if there is space available we will let you know nearer to the time of the workshop. For those selected to be in the Ignition Company, we will ask for proof of age. Frantic Assembly are now offering public workshops for young people, to find out when the next workshops are, sign up to our mailing list.

I have specific access needs, can I still take part?

Yes. Please state what your access needs are and how we can support you when you sign up to a workshop. In previous years, for example, we’ve employed BSL interpreters and workshops have taken place in wheelchair accessible areas. If you have any specific questions or want to find out more about this, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

Why is Ignition only for young men?

Ignition was created as a response to the lack of young men choosing theatre as a career route. We knew that our physical style of theatre appealed to young men in workshops in schools but the uptake of professional male performers for productions and training was frustratingly low. We knew the skills were out there but for various reasons young men were not applying those skills to our physical theatre.

In developing Ignition we have seen that theatre can seem intimidating or unmasculine and somehow told young men that it was not for them. Artistic Director Scott Graham also experienced this and came to theatre very late and needed that extra push and encouragement from another theatre company to do it. We wanted to provide this experience to the next generation of male creative talent and for Frantic Assembly to act as examples of how young men, who aren’t necessarily trained or from an arts background, can engage and thrive within the arts, and physical theatre in particular.

Although Ignition is only for young men, Frantic Assembly now offer open public workshops for young people, to find out when the next workshops are, sign up to our mailing list.

Can I come to the Trial workshop without attending a Taster first?

Yes. However, if you’ve never experienced Ignition before, the Taster workshop is a good opportunity to try out our style of theatre, gain new skills and meet the Frantic Ignition team.

Is the Taster workshop an audition?

No. You have to attend a Trial workshop for the opportunity to be selected for the Ignition Company.

I’m not available for the Intensive week in London, can I still come to a Taster or Trial?

We will prioritise those who are available and would therefore have the opportunity to be selected for the Ignition Company. Please contact us to be put on a reserve list; if there is space available we will let you know nearer to the time of the workshop.

What time is my Trial?

We have a number of Trials on the same day to make sure we see everyone that wants to take part. Please keep between 10am & 6pm free if on a weekend, or between 4pm & 9pm free if on a weekday, you will be contacted before the Trial with your EXACT TIME . The Trial will last approximately 2 hours including registration.

What happens if I don’t get into the Ignition Company?

By coming to a Trial workshop, you automatically become part of our Back Up Programme which includes further training with Frantic Assembly in your region and exciting opportunities from Ignition partners. Also, if you don’t get into the company, it doesn’t necessarily mean we aren’t interested in you, it might have just not been the right year and selecting only 12 can be tough! If you are still in the age group, come back the next year so we get to see how much you have developed since last time, its also a great opportunity to start building a relationship with Frantic.
