A big business in our own right, we employ over 3,000 people and contribute an estimated £520 million to the economy every year. We have a diverse student community made up of more than 28,000 students from 144 countries and territories.
With a 190-year history of education, which began with the founding of the Leeds Mechanics Institute in 1824, we are proud of our history and excited about our future.

We have been given five-star ratings for: employability, facilities, internationalisation, inclusiveness and our academic work in Hospitality & Leisure Management.
In June 2017 we were awarded ‘silver’ status in the national Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF). This is a nationally recognised mark of quality for the education offered to current students and applicants to the University.
