Competition Rules

Organisers: The organisers of the competition are blackhistorymonth.org.uk.
Eligibility: The competition is open to all primary school, secondary school, college, and university students across the UK, as well as members of the public who want to join in.
Consent: Entrants under 16 years old must have the consent of a parent or guardian to participate.
Entry Submission: Each Entrant can submit one original poem. The poem should be no longer than 50 lines (excluding title).
Original Work: All entries must be the original work of the entrant. No plagiarised content will be accepted. Submission of AI-generated work is strictly prohibited.
New Work: Submitted entries must not have been previously published, self-published, shared on a website, disclosed on social media, broadcast, or recognized as winners in any other competition prior to 21st March, 2024.
Language: Poems must be written in English.
Changes: Poems entered into the competition are final and may not be altered or modified under any circumstances.
Theme: Poems should fit within the announced theme of the competition; "Celebrating Black Women".
Submission Method: Poems must be submitted through our official submission form. Entries sent through the post or by any other method will not be accepted.
Deadline: All poems must be submitted by midnight (GMT UK time) , 15th November 2023. Late submissions will not be considered.
Judging: Poems will be evaluated by a panel of experts in literature and poetry, and their decisions are considered final. Neither the judges nor the organizers will engage in any correspondence regarding the judging process.
Prizes: Winners will be announced on 21st March 2024.
Rights: The author retains the copyright for their poems. However, by entering, participants grant the organiser the right to publish, broadcast, and share their poems for promotional purposes indefinitely. Using the winning poems elsewhere within one year from 21st March 2024 requires permission in writing from the organiser.
