The National Black History Month Magazine returns for 2026 with a special edition celebrating this year’s theme, Honouring Our Communities. Each year, producing the National Black History Month Magazine gives us an opportunity to reflect on the stories we tell, the people we recognise and the history we pass on to future generations.
For 2026, our theme is Honouring Our Communities.
It is a theme that asks us to look at the people around us: those who teach, care, volunteer, campaign, create, serve, mentor and open doors for others. Their work does not always attract headlines, but its impact can be felt across families, workplaces and communities throughout Britain.

The National Black History Month Magazine 2026 brings together stories about Black history, culture, achievement and contemporary Britain.
It celebrates nationally recognised figures alongside people whose contributions have often taken place quietly and without the wider recognition they deserve. These are people who have devoted years to improving the lives of others and strengthening the communities around them.
Our 2026 cover pays tribute to Kenya King, whose life and contribution deserve to be remembered and celebrated.
Across the magazine, readers will also discover stories from the people featured in Honouring Black Britain 2026. Chosen from hundreds of nominations, these 54 individuals represent different generations, professions, experiences and parts of the country.
Their stories remind us that Black history is not only found in the past. It is being made around us every day.

The magazine is accompanied by the Black History Month Resource Pack 2026, which gives organisations practical materials for planning activities throughout October.
At the heart of the Resource Pack is the Honouring Black Britain 2026 exhibition: six A1 posters celebrating 54 people whose lives demonstrate leadership, service, achievement and commitment to their communities.
Each person featured has an individual written profile and audio story. This means pupils, staff and visitors can see their portrait, read their story and hear about their journey.
