Honouring Our Communities
Black History Month 2026 invites us to look more closely at the communities that shape, support and sustain us.
This year’s theme, “Honouring Our Communities,” recognises that Black history is not only made through landmark moments or national figures. It is also built through everyday acts of care, leadership, creativity, service and commitment.
Across Britain, Black individuals continue to strengthen communities in education, public life, culture, business, the arts, sport, faith, voluntary service, youth work, grassroots organising and civic leadership.
The 2026 resource pack has been designed to help schools and organisations explore these stories with clarity, confidence and impact.
What the Resource Pack Includes
The Black History Month Resource Pack 2026 includes:
- 6 A1 exhibition posters linked to Honouring Black Britain 2026
- Individual poster profiles for each featured person
- Photographic profiles and supporting story materials
- 20 primary school fact and activity sheets featuring well-known Black British figures
- Primary school lesson plans and classroom activities
- Secondary school lesson plans and discussion resources
- Curriculum-linked learning materials for KS1–KS4

- Each featured person will have their own individual poster profile and audio story, helping bring their life, contribution and legacy to life.
The official Black History Month 2026 logos will help schools and organisations promote their activity across posters, newsletters, websites, intranets, screens and social media.
The final poster design is currently in development, but the series will use photographic profiles and supporting story materials suitable for schools, workplaces, libraries, community spaces, public buildings and Black History Month events.
Honouring Black Britain 2026
The exhibition posters will be linked to Honouring Black Britain 2026, a national recognition initiative marking Black History Month 2026.
The nominations have now closed, and the selected honourees will help shape this year’s poster series and supporting story materials.
This initiative celebrates Black individuals whose lives, leadership, service and contribution have made a meaningful difference to communities across Britain.
The aim is to make visible the people whose work is often felt deeply within communities, even when it is not widely recognised nationally.

Primary and Secondary School Resources
For primary schools, the pack includes 20 fact and activity sheets featuring well-known Black British figures, pioneers and role models.

Each sheet is designed to help pupils learn through biography, quick facts, timelines, key vocabulary, reading questions, true or false activities, reflection tasks and creative challenges.
The primary school materials help younger pupils engage with Black history in a clear, accessible and age-appropriate way, while also encouraging them to think about courage, fairness, creativity, leadership, service, resilience and community.
For secondary schools, the pack includes lesson plans and discussion resources that support deeper learning around Black British history, identity, contribution, leadership, representation, justice, community and social change.
These resources are suitable for classroom lessons, tutor time, assemblies, homework, library activities, themed displays and Black History Month events.
Audio Stories and Digital Resources
The 2026 pack will include audio stories for each featured individual, giving schools and organisations an accessible way to bring the stories to life.
Audio stories can be used in classrooms, assemblies, displays, group discussions, independent learning and community events.
The pack will also include digital learning materials, social media graphics, campaign content, official Black History Month 2026 logos and screensavers to help organisations promote Black History Month across websites, intranets, newsletters, receptions and public display screens.
The screensavers and digital display graphics will help schools and organisations extend Black History Month across classrooms, corridors, staff areas, libraries, receptions, community spaces and public buildings.
