Royal British Legion

The Royal British Legion is the UK’s leading Armed Forces charity, bringing society together to recognise, remember and support the Armed Forces community.

Founded in 1921, we offer a wide range of services, from financial assistance, housing support and access to health assistance to employment advice. We support current and former members of the Royal Navy, the Army and the RAF, and their families.

We are also the nation’s champion of Remembrance. We believe Remembrance can unite communities, and foster understanding across faiths, cultures and heritage, as people honour the service and sacrifices of the Armed Forces from Britain and the Commonwealth.

Every year, our Poppy Appeal – a symbol of Remembrance – helps raise funds for essential services that support those who have served and are currently serving our nation. Together, we can ensure that their legacy is not forgotten.

The Royal British Legion also campaigns on key issues and gives our Armed Forces community a voice to help improve the lives of everyone in the Armed Forces, past and present.

From before the First World War to the most recent conflicts, Black men and women have served, and continue to serve, with courage, honour and compassion. For example, more than 600,000 men and women from Africa and the Caribbean served in the Second World War, in all theatres of war, on land, at sea and in the air.

Below are six videos exploring the stories of service and sacrifice of some of these brave men and women.
