PETE RAY BIGGIN

Saturday 21st October 2017

With his deeper-than-deep grooves, blistering solos, and out-there creativity, Pete Ray Biggin plays with such fiery passion that he has quickly earned himself a reputation as one of the UK’s hottest players.   He has played with the likes of Chaka Khan, Robbie Williams, The Specials, Beverley Knight, Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson,  Estelle, Adele and  Incognito to name a few.

This then, the  latest in Ronnie Scott’s series of Masterclasses, presents a unique opportunity to see one of the UK’s greatest drummers, Pete Ray Biggin (PBug), perform an exclusive masterclass. This is a must for musicians, drummers and fans of PBug’s Pete Ray Biggin’s effortless ability on the kit. This lunchtime session will feature Pete demonstrating some of his musical and drum techniques, talking about his influences and musical career to date as well as his latest book. If time permits there will be a Q&A session at the end.

Originating from Sheffield but living in London since 2002, Pete started drumming when he was four. Self-taught and influenced by his drumming dad Alan, Pete won the Drummers Alliance Beat 93 – Under 16s national drumming competition earning him the first UK Sabian endorsee at 13 years old. By age fifteen, Pete was playing clubs, where he feels he really got his music education. Six years later he was touring Europe and gigging, writing and recording everything from jazz and soul to pop and rock.  Now recording and touring the world with Incognito, Level 42 and his own group, the funky PB Underground.

While he describes his drumming as “pushy, groovy, edgy and energetic,” there is an undeniably moving power to Pete’s playing – high energy heart and soul drumming… with a great sense of musicality and a really big groove.
