Daniel Casimir

Friday12 November 2021

The bassist’s debut full-length album is a celebration of Black British culture, taking a step outside of prescribed ideas.

Daniel Casimir spent 2020 recording the album, which incorporates a critique of the genres, labels and stereotypes which have traditionally been placed upon Black musicians.

The Serious Take Five alum has become a regular fixture across the UK jazz scene, providing his heavyweight upright sound for the likes of Nubya Garcia, Ashley Henry, Camilla George and Binker Golding.

Having studied and performed with Julian Joseph, Lonnie Liston Smith and Jean Toussaint, the turning point in Casimir’s career came in 2016 when he won the Worshipful Company of Musicians’ young jazz musician award.

The award provided the catalyst for his first EP, Escapee, to critical acclaim and radio play across stations including BBC Radio 6 Music, Worldwide FM and Jazz FM.

He subsequently released These Days with Tess Hirst in 2019 on Jazz Re:freshed.
