Late Night Jazz: Desta Haile

Thursday 21 October 2021

Late Night Jazz celebrates the freshest sounds on the London jazz scene in the intimacy of the Elgar Room.

Desta Haile is a storyteller, throwing together music and words in an eclectic and refreshing way as she draws on influences and travels around the world. She explores her multilingual dreams through song, but also through theatre and poetry.

She has performed internationally as a singer and songwriter, solo and also as a backing vocalist for artists like Joe Bataan and Zap Mama. In 2020 she represented Eritrea in Universal Music’s Earth Orchestra project and was commissioned by UNESCO to compose a song for the Green Citizens campaign.

Desta is currently the Deputy Director of the Royal African Society. Throughout all her voyages and experiences, music remains her mainstay, her inspiration, her home.
