Anthony McGill and Kaleidoscope Collective

Tuesday 23 April

Delve into the depths of the human experience with deeply personal chamber music by Brahms and Messiaen, performed by clarinettist Anthony McGill and the Kaleidoscope Chamber Collective.

Modelled after the Clarinet Quintet by Mozart (one of the early champions of the instrument), Brahms crafts rich, emotional landscapes in his own seminal quintet for clarinet and strings. A chamber work that defies convention and one of Messiaen’s most celebrated compositions, the Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet For the End of Time) is a testament to the power of art, written and first performed in the German prisoner-of-war camp where the composer was being held.

Anthony McGill is renowned for his nuanced playing and ‘silken tone’ (San Diego Union-Tribune). The members of the Kaleidoscope Collective are ‘all born communicators as well as musicians at the highest level’ (The Arts Desk), including Elena Urioste and Tom Poster of lockdown ‘Jukebox’ fame – a life-affirming project that won a Royal Philharmonic Society Award.
