A singular voice in contemporary music, Jamila Woods is not only a musician but a poet and multidisciplinary artist whose work transcends genre and medium. Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, she crafts modern, soul-rooted RnB enriched with themes of Black identity, self-love, community, and romantic vulnerability.
Her most recent release, Water Made Us, is a genre-defying odyssey that explores love in all its fluid forms—tender, messy, transformative. The album follows two critically acclaimed bodies of work: HEAVN, a radiant celebration of Black womanhood and community, and Legacy! Legacy!, a striking homage to Black and brown trailblazers, blending personal reflection with cultural reverence.
Renowned for her graceful lyricism and arresting presence, Jamila’s artistry has been featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk, CBS This Morning, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She’s graced stages alongside the likes of Corinne Bailey Rae, Bonobo, Common, Brittany Howard, and Chance the Rapper, among many others.
As an award-winning poet, her performances weave together music and verse with breathtaking precision—blurring the lines between song and spoken word. As cultural critic Doreen St. Félix aptly puts it: “It makes you wish all singers were poets.”
This is more than a concert—it’s an immersive experience of story, sound, and spirit. A must for anyone who values lyrical depth, sonic beauty, and fearless authenticity.
