Lyra Festival 2026: Crafting Your Stories with Musa Okwonga

Join Lyra – Bristol Poetry Festival 2026 for an inspiring creative writing workshop led by award-winning author and broadcaster Musa Okwonga.

Whether you write fiction or non-fiction, for adults or for children, this engaging session offers a valuable opportunity to develop your storytelling skills in a supportive and creative environment. Musa will guide participants through techniques designed to sharpen the tools used to craft compelling narratives, helping writers bring greater texture, depth and emotional power to their work.

Drawing on his extensive experience as a writer and cultural commentator, Musa offers practical insight into storytelling, alongside encouragement to explore personal voice and perspective. The workshop is suitable for writers of all levels looking to refine their ideas and build confidence in their creative practice.

Musa Okwonga is an award-winning author whose work explores culture, politics and society. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, he has written eight books, including One of Them: An Eton College Memoir and In The End, It Was All About Love. He is also co-host of the Stadio podcast and winner of the 2022 Sunday Times Children’s Sports Book of the Year Award for Striking Out, co-authored with Ian Wright.

Set within the Arnolfini’s community workshop space, this session offers a focused and intimate setting for creative exploration as part of the wider Lyra Festival programme.
