Matt Holborn: Giants of Jazz Violin – Live at Ronnie Scott’s

Sunday 17th May 2026

Join acclaimed jazz violinist Matt Holborn for a special Sunday lunchtime performance celebrating the legacy of the great pioneers of jazz violin.

Giants of Jazz Violin pays tribute to Joe Venuti, Stéphane Grappelli and Stuff Smith—three influential figures who helped shape the role of the violin in jazz from the 1920s onwards. Through a mix of classic repertoire and original compositions, the performance explores the evolution of jazz violin across generations and styles.

Holborn, a leading figure on the UK jazz scene, is known for his work with the London Django Collective and collaborations with artists including Bill Bailey. His playing reflects a deep connection to the traditions of Django Reinhardt while bringing a fresh, contemporary energy to the genre.

Backed by a group of highly regarded jazz musicians, this performance offers an engaging and accessible introduction to jazz violin, combining swing rhythms, improvisation and expressive musical storytelling.

Drawing on material from his 2025 album For Stuff, the show celebrates both the history and continued influence of jazz violin in an intimate live setting.
