Marks of RED

Friday 8 May and Saturday 9 May 2026

Choreographer Shamel Pitts brings Marks of RED to Leicester as part of the Let’s Dance International Frontiers festival, presenting a powerful Afrofuturistic performance that explores memory, identity and transformation through movement.

Told through the perspectives of six women, the work blends elements of magical realism with contemporary dance, creating a striking meditation on the body as a site of history, imagination and renewal. Drawing on the concept of the “womb space”, the performance reflects on how past experiences shape presence, connection and possibility.

This multidisciplinary production combines choreography, sound, projection and lighting to create a visually immersive and emotionally resonant experience. Created by Pitts and his collective TRIBE, the piece continues his acclaimed RED Series, pushing the boundaries of performance while celebrating Black embodiment, resilience and creative expression.

Visually striking and deeply atmospheric, Marks of RED invites audiences into a world that is both intimate and expansive, where movement becomes a language for exploring identity, community and the future of contemporary dance.

Curve Theatre, located in the heart of Leicester’s cultural quarter, is one of the UK’s leading producing theatres, known for its bold programming and commitment to diverse and innovative work.
