Sylvia

Thursday 24 September to Saturday 3 October 2026

Sylvia tells the powerful and often overlooked story of Sylvia Pankhurst — fearless, complex and determined — bringing the life of the rebellious middle daughter of Emmeline Pankhurst to the stage in a bold and contemporary musical.

While her mother and sister led the mainstream suffrage movement, Sylvia fought for the forgotten — working women, the poor and the politically unheard — risking everything to bring about change. Caught between family loyalty and her own convictions, her story is one of courage, sacrifice and resistance.

Blending hip hop, funk and soul, the production brings a fresh and energetic perspective to a pivotal moment in British history. With an original score by Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, and direction and choreography by Kate Prince, the show combines music, movement and storytelling to create a visually striking and emotionally engaging experience.

Starring Beverley Knight as Emmeline Pankhurst in an Olivier Award-winning performance, alongside Sharon Rose as Sylvia, the production delivers a powerful and compelling portrayal of activism, identity and collective action. First staged at London’s Old Vic to sold-out audiences and standing ovations, Sylvia has been widely recognised for its impact and originality.

Winner of Best New Musical at the Black British Theatre Awards, and nominated for multiple Olivier Awards including Best New Musical, the production continues to resonate with audiences through its exploration of equality, voice and social change.

Curve Theatre, located in Leicester’s cultural quarter, is one of the UK’s leading producing venues, known for its bold programming and commitment to diverse and innovative work.
