Noughts & Crosses

Tuesday 19th May – Saturday 23rd May 2026

Malorie Blackman’s acclaimed novel Noughts & Crosses comes to the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield in a powerful stage adaptation by Sabrina Mahfouz.

Presented by Pilot Theatre in association with Northern Stage, the production is directed by Esther Richardson and brings to life a gripping story set in a deeply divided society. At its centre is the relationship between Sephy and Callum — two young people whose friendship and love cross rigid racial and social boundaries.

Often described as a modern-day Romeo and Juliet, the story explores themes of race, power, identity and resistance. As tensions escalate and violence threatens to erupt, the characters are forced to confront the realities of a world shaped by inequality and injustice.

The production has been widely praised for its emotional depth and relevance, particularly for younger audiences, and was previously recognised as a finalist for Best Show for Children and Young People at the UK Theatre Awards.

Running at the Lyceum Theatre from 19–23 May 2026, the performance has a running time of approximately 2 hours 30 minutes, including an interval, and is recommended for audiences aged 12 and over.
