Michael Akadiri: Don’t Call Me Uncle!

Saturday 3rd October 2026

Award-winning comedian and practising doctor Michael Akadiri comes to Cardiff with his latest stand-up show, Don’t Call Me Uncle!, bringing his sharp observations and energetic storytelling to Wales Millennium Centre during Black History Month 2026.

Despite only being in his early thirties, Michael has recently found himself being called “uncle” in public — a term usually reserved for older and supposedly wiser members of the community. The unexpected experience sends him into a comic examination of age, identity, perception and the difference between how we see ourselves and how the world chooses to see us.

Blending personal experiences with socially aware comedy, Michael reflects on the many roles he occupies as a doctor, husband, father and performer. His material combines everyday observations with politically informed humour, offering an entertaining and relatable exploration of adulthood, responsibility and the expectations that arrive whether we are ready for them or not.

Michael has appeared on Comedy Central Live, ITV’s The Stand Up Sketch Show and Channel 4’s Stand Up to Cancer. He has also been heard on Capital XTRA, LBC and BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends, and has supported Jason Manford on tour.

A winner of both the Komedia New Comedy Award and the Comedian of Medicine Award at the Haags Comedy Festival, Michael has established himself as one of the most distinctive new voices on the British comedy circuit.

Presented in the intimate Cabaret space at Wales Millennium Centre, Don’t Call Me Uncle! promises an evening of intelligent, fast-moving comedy from a performer able to find humour in professional life, family expectations and the uncomfortable realisation that other people may no longer consider you young.

Please note that the performance contains strong language and is suitable for audiences aged 18 and over. Seating is unreserved, and larger groups are advised to arrive early to find seats together.
