Nigerian Afrobeats star Joeboy comes to Sheffield for a special late-night celebration marking Nigeria’s Independence, bringing contemporary Nigerian music and club culture to the heart of the city.
Presented by Afrovibes Sheffield, the event takes place at ONYX Nightclub and promises more than five hours of music and celebration, with Joeboy appearing as the headline performer.
Joeboy has become one of the internationally recognised voices of contemporary Nigerian pop and Afrobeats, building a global audience through hits including Baby, Beginning and Sip (Alcohol).
Nigeria gained independence from Britain on 1 October 1960, and independence celebrations have since become an important moment for Nigerian communities both at home and across the diaspora.
Music, fashion, food and nightlife frequently play a central role in those celebrations, offering an opportunity for communities to come together while celebrating Nigerian culture and identity.
The Sheffield event places Afrobeats firmly at the centre of the evening, reflecting the extraordinary international success of a musical movement whose influence now reaches audiences around the world.
For Sheffield’s Nigerian and wider African communities, the night also provides an opportunity to connect, celebrate and enjoy one of Africa’s leading contemporary performers.
Beginning at 11:00pm on Saturday 3rd October and continuing until 4:30am on Sunday 4th October, Joeboy Live in Sheffield: Nigeria Independence Celebration offers a high-energy addition to Sheffield’s Black History Month cultural calendar.
