RJCD Boyz Camp offers boys aged 9 to 17 a free week of dance, movement and confidence-building during the October half-term holiday.
Taking place at RJC Dance’s Mandela Centre home in Chapeltown, the five-day programme welcomes complete beginners as well as young people who already have some experience of dance.
Each afternoon, participants will work with experienced RJC Dance tutors to learn a new routine while developing fitness, coordination, rhythm, teamwork and performance skills.
The focus is not simply on learning choreography. Dance is used as a way to help young people express themselves creatively, develop confidence, form new friendships and recognise what they can achieve by working together.
Across the five days, the group will build towards an end-of-week performance for family and friends, providing a shared goal and an opportunity to celebrate their progress.
RJC Dance has been part of Leeds’ cultural landscape since 1993 and is recognised for its contribution to Black British dance and community arts.
Based in Chapeltown, the organisation works across generations and has a longstanding commitment to nurturing young people, developing diverse talent and creating opportunities for communities to participate in high-quality dance.
Its work demonstrates how Black cultural organisations can play an important role not simply in performance but in youth development, wellbeing, confidence and leadership.
The camp is funded by the Inner North Community Committee of Leeds City Council and forms part of the wider Leeds400 programme.
Participation is free, although a refundable £10 attendance deposit is required. Participants are expected to attend all five days so that they can learn the complete choreography and take part in the final sharing.
Taking place during Black History Month, RJCD Boyz Camp 2026 offers a positive half-term activity combining movement, creativity and community in one of Leeds’ most important Black-led cultural organisations.
