Six-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, musician and producer PJ Morton comes to Leeds for an intimate live performance at The Wardrobe during Black History Month 2026.
Based in New Orleans, Morton has built a remarkable career spanning soul, R&B, gospel and contemporary popular music, earning international recognition both as a solo artist and through his work with some of the world’s leading musicians.
Alongside his solo career, Morton has spent more than a decade as a keyboardist with Maroon 5 and has collaborated with artists including Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, Jon Batiste, Nas, Lil Wayne, Jill Scott, Yebba and JoJo.
His work is rooted in the musical traditions of New Orleans while continually moving between gospel, soul and contemporary R&B.
In 2024, Morton released Cape Town to Cairo, an ambitious project written, recorded and produced during a month-long journey across Africa. The album reflected his desire to engage directly with musicians and creative traditions across the continent rather than treating Africa simply as an abstract influence.
That same year, Morton became the first Black composer to write an original song for a Disney theme-park attraction, contributing music to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
His memoir, Saturday Night, Sunday Morning, has also allowed him to reflect on a career shaped by music, faith, race, culture and the challenge of creating work outside the expectations placed upon him.
With six Grammy wins and more than twenty nominations, Morton has developed a reputation as one of contemporary soul’s most accomplished musicians.
The Leeds concert provides an opportunity to experience his songwriting and musicianship in the relatively intimate surroundings of The Wardrobe.
Taking place during Black History Month, PJ Morton offers a powerful contemporary addition to the city’s programme, connecting African American soul and gospel traditions with a musician whose creative journey continues to reach across the African diaspora.
