Discover the story of British reggae with Grantley Haynes, founder of GTS Records and author of From Windrush to British Reggae, in an evening of conversation and audience questions at Brixton Library.
Tracing a journey from the arrival of the Windrush generation to the development of a distinctive British reggae scene, Haynes explores the connections between music, migration and cultural identity.
His book examines how reggae became a means of expression for Black British communities navigating social change, discrimination and new opportunities. Alongside its musical development, it considers reggae’s role in resistance, community life and the creation of a shared cultural voice.
Haynes will be in conversation with Colin Brown from Reggae Fraternity UK. The evening offers an opportunity to hear about the people and experiences behind British reggae and to put questions to someone closely involved in its development.
