Join the private view of Uncommonwealth, an exhibition by Lanceford Brown exploring unity, inequality and resistance within the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth encompasses wealthy states, developing countries and small island nations, with substantial differences in resources, population and political rights.
Brown’s exhibition uses the idea of “Uncommonwealth” to consider these imbalances and question what unity means when member countries face such different circumstances.
Working primarily in acrylic and watercolour, Brown has had work included in the BP Portrait Award 2004 and has appeared as a contestant on Sky Portrait Artist of the Year.
The private view takes place at Durning Library as part of Lambeth Libraries’ Black History Month programme.
The exhibition runs from 6 October to 2 November 2026 during library opening hours. The booking link above is specifically for the private view on 7 October.
