Legacy in Motion: An Inherited Light Conversation

Thursday 22 October 2026

A special evening connecting generations of Caribbean British trailblazers who are shaping culture, community and belonging.

More than six decades ago, Claudia Jones helped lay the foundations for a cultural movement that continues to bring communities together today. Held at a venue closely connected to the early history of Notting Hill Carnival, this event brings that legacy into conversation with the Caribbean changemakers building its next chapter.

The evening opens with an exclusive screening of the Inherited Light short film. Part of an ongoing archive documenting the experiences of Caribbean Millennial and Gen Z communities across the diaspora, the film sets the scene for the conversation that follows.

Three panellists from three different fields will explore one continuing story. Through film and industry change, policy and public office, and identity expressed through sound and composition, they are helping to shape what Caribbean culture looks like today and what it may become next.

Each speaker has experience of navigating institutions and industries that are still catching up with who they are and what they bring. Expect honesty, reflection and joy, alongside an open conversation about the role each of us can play in ensuring this legacy continues beyond the people on stage.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT), an award-winning charity that provides hope to people living with blood cancer and other serious illnesses who need a matched stem-cell, blood or organ donor.

Legacy in Motion forms part of Camden Council’s Black History Season 2026 programme.
