Kit de Waal’s bestselling debut novel, My Name Is Leon, tells the moving story of a nine-year-old boy living in foster care and trying to reunite his family. Published in 2016 to widespread acclaim, the novel was adapted for television in 2022.
Her latest book, The Best of Everything, is a tender, funny and moving story about family, grief, forgiveness and the unexpected ways people find their way back to one another.
Born in Birmingham to an Irish mother and a Caribbean father, Kit grew up during the 1960s and 1970s. Her writing is firmly rooted in working-class culture and frequently explores family relationships, identity, belonging and the experiences of people whose stories are too often overlooked.
