Who gets to shape how communities are portrayed? This Black History Month, join Our Version Media and Mayflower Studios for an evening where the people who live the stories take control of how those stories are told.
Inspired by the 2026 Black History Month theme, Honouring Our Communities, this annual Black Stories Screening celebrates real-life experiences from African, Caribbean and Black British communities across the region.
The programme will feature up to ten short films created entirely on mobile phones by newly trained community storytellers. Each participant learned how to create, film and edit their own story through Our Version Media’s month-long Mobile Storytelling course.
The result is an evening of authentic, first-hand storytelling that demonstrates the power of Black-led, people-powered media. The films offer audiences an opportunity to experience communities through the voices of the people who know them best.
Before the screening, guests can enjoy a drinks reception, meet the Our Version Media team and storytellers, and connect with others from across the community.
Our Version Media is a Black-led social enterprise that amplifies Black voices through digital media and storytelling skills. Its work increases the positive and authentic visibility of African, Caribbean and Black British communities while challenging negative narratives in mainstream media.
