Celebrate Black History Month with a free screening of Hidden Figures, the inspiring story of the Black women mathematicians who helped transform NASA’s space programme.
The University of Greater Manchester presents a special Black History Month screening of the acclaimed film Hidden Figures.
Based on a remarkable true story, the film follows Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson—three gifted African American women whose mathematical ability and determination played an essential role in the United States space programme.
Working at NASA during the 1960s, the women helped calculate the flight trajectories that made astronaut John Glenn’s historic journey into orbit possible. At the same time, they confronted racial segregation, discrimination and restrictions placed upon women in science and engineering.
The film celebrates their intelligence, courage and perseverance while revealing a part of space history that remained overlooked for many years.
Guests, including children, are welcome. A separate ticket must be booked for every person attending.
The film is rated PG and is recommended for children aged 12 and over.
