Families and young people are invited to a free day of technology, sport and discovery at Glasgow’s Army Reserve Centre during Black History Month.
Hosted by the British Army, the Family Festival & Interactive Experience will bring together families, teenagers and community groups from across Glasgow for a day of practical activities, conversation and entertainment.
Visitors can explore interactive technology and STEM activities, including immersive virtual-reality experiences, drone demonstrations and engineering challenges.
There will also be obstacle courses, team sports, fitness activities and free prize giveaways.
Complimentary food, refreshments and soft drinks will be available throughout the day. Organisers have said that a range of dietary requirements will be catered for.
Sgt Oluwagbenga Daniels, from the British Army’s Recruiting Group in Scotland, said:
“It is designed to be a high-energy, inspiring day out, giving teenagers a hands-on look at future skills and funded career paths while providing families with a fantastic day of free activities and hospitality.”
Bringing Glasgow’s communities together
The event welcomes people from across Glasgow’s schools, community organisations and faith groups.
An informal meeting space will give young people and their families an opportunity to speak with serving soldiers from a variety of backgrounds and faiths.
Visitors will be able to hear about their experiences, ask questions and learn more about everyday life in the British Army.
Sgt Daniels added:
“We deeply value Glasgow’s vibrant, multi-faith fabric and want to ensure your families are right at the heart of this celebration.”
Exploring future opportunities
Teenagers considering their next steps will be able to learn about Army careers, training programmes, apprenticeships and degree opportunities.
The Army offers more than 150 roles across seven main career areas:
- Engineering
- Intelligence, Communications and IT
- Medical and Healthcare
- Logistics and Support
- HR, Finance and Business
- Combat
- Music
The event is designed to give young people a practical introduction to future skills and career paths while providing an enjoyable and welcoming day for the whole family.
Admission, activities, food and refreshments are free.
