Discover the flavours, stories and heritage of Tooting’s African and Caribbean communities on a guided cultural food tour featuring local businesses, traditional dishes and community stories.
Inspired by the Black History Month 2026 theme, Honouring Our Communities, this special food tour celebrates the people, businesses and culinary traditions that have helped shape Tooting’s rich cultural identity.
Led by Geoff Simmons of Planet Tooting and Chantelle Bent of Chantelle’s Community Kitchen, participants will explore one of South London’s most culturally diverse neighbourhoods.
Along the way, visitors will meet local chefs, cooks, food producers and business owners, hearing about their heritage, entrepreneurship and the recipes and traditions passed down through generations.
The tour will visit a selection of African and Caribbean restaurants, cafés, bakeries and food businesses, including:
- Kimmie’s Jerk Joint
- Chagos Bar
- ENU Ethiopian and Eritrean Kitchen
- Kenkey
- Sunyani
- Sunshine
- Minerva
- Ital Vital
- Mixed Blessings Bakery
Food and drink tasters are expected to include oxtail, jerk chicken, rice and peas, Guinness punch, mini patties, homemade peanut butter candy, Ital soup, jerk and barbecue wings, and saltfish fritters.
More than a food tour, this is a celebration of culture, heritage, entrepreneurship and the important role independent businesses play within Tooting’s community.
The event is suitable for anyone interested in food, culture, local history and community stories.
Please bring your Eventbrite ticket with you on the day. The meeting point is Tooting Broadway Underground Station.
