Alim Kamara African Stories

Wednesday 18 November 2026

British-Sierra Leonean rapper and storyteller Alim Kamara brings African history, heritage and identity to life through storytelling, music and an interactive experience at Hastings Library.

Taking place on Wednesday 18 November, the event gives audiences the opportunity to experience African storytelling traditions through the work of an artist whose own creative journey has been shaped by stories from Sierra Leone.

Alim Kamara is a British-Sierra Leonean rapper, storyteller and Man of the Year at the British Muslim Awards 2026.

Inspired by Sierra Leone’s Storytelling Tradition

As a child growing up in Sierra Leone, Alim listened to Djelis — traditional storytellers — and became fascinated by the way they could weave knowledge and life lessons through their stories.

Storytelling became an important part of his own creative life.

After moving to London and beginning his music career, Alim used many of the same storytelling techniques in his work, going on to achieve number one singles in both Sierra Leone and Nigeria.

Bringing African History to Life

Through live storytelling, music and interactive workshops, Alim shares stories exploring history, identity and heritage.

His performances aim to help people connect with African history in a way that reaches beyond a traditional lesson or lecture, using storytelling and music to make history engaging, memorable and accessible.

The Hastings Library event offers audiences the chance to hear these stories in person and discover how oral traditions continue to connect generations and communities.

The event runs from 6:00pm to 7:00pm and places can be booked online or by calling 0345 60 80 196.
