Anti-Slavery Sunday at St Mary’s Church, Henbury

Sunday 18th October 2026

St Mary’s Church in Henbury will mark Anti-Slavery Sunday with a special Black History Month service examining the enduring legacy of transatlantic chattel slavery.

As part of the service, members of the Diocese of Bristol’s Racial Justice team will take part in a question-and-answer session exploring how the history of slavery continues to shape society today.

The discussion will consider contested heritage, the lasting consequences of transatlantic slavery and how individuals and communities can engage thoughtfully with difficult aspects of Britain’s past.

The event forms part of the Diocese of Bristol’s Black History Month programme and provides an opportunity for reflection, learning and conversation.

Visitors from all backgrounds are welcome to attend.

The service begins at 10am.

Admission is free.
