Loving

3 - 9 February 2017

A landmark case in civil rights history is explored in Loving, the latest film from acclaimed writer-director Jeff Nichols.

In rural 1950s Virginia, white construction worker Richard Loving (Joel Edgerton) and Mildred Jeter (Ruth Negga) fall in love and marry. Despite marrying in Washington DC, their relationship is nevertheless in violation of Virginia’s laws against interracial marriage. Following their arrest, the Lovings embark on a legal battle for the marriage to be legally recognised – a case that would change the course of history.

As the central couple, Edgerton and Negga are sensitive and affecting in a film that understatedly recounts an often painful historical moment that still has resonance today.
