Conservation Areas @ 50 – South West

Thu 7 September 2017 09:30 – 16:30

2017 is the 50th anniversary of the Civic Amenities Act that established conservation areas. Their promotion is a statutory duty of Historic England, as highlighted in the Corporate Plan 2016-19, and we have considerable expertise about them to deploy.

The course will relate to a host of other HE-led activities designed to celebrate the anniversary. This includes an update of the 2016 Understanding Place: conservation area designation, appraisal and management advice note, surveys of Civic Voice, IHBC members and the general public, and a focus on conservation areas as part of Heritage at Risk. It will also complement and draw on the work of other organisations, such as the 20th Century Society’s survey of C20 conservation areas.
