Ancient African Futures: Reading & Discussion with Stuart Taylor

Friday 23rd October 2026

Author Stuart Taylor leads an evening exploring colonialism, cultural heritage, Indigenous Knowledge Systems and alternative ways of understanding our relationship with society and the natural world.

The event is based around Taylor’s book Ancient African Futures: Systemic Constellations – A Decolonial Poetics and examines how historical European colonialism continues to influence ideas about culture, identity and wellbeing.

The discussion will explore the ways Indigenous Knowledge Systems can offer different approaches to understanding human relationships with nature, community and diversity.

Taylor will also consider the importance of communities recognising and valuing their own cultural heritage in the face of racist stereotypes and ideas inherited from colonialism.

The evening offers an opportunity for discussion, reflection and learning as part of Bristol’s Black History Month programme.

The event runs from 6pm to 9pm.

Admission is free.
