Watershed celebrates poet, educator, activist and entrepreneur Lawrence Hoo with a special Black History Month screening marking 20 years since his first film was shown at the Bristol venue.
Inner City Tales was created while Hoo was artist in residence at Kuumba and explores the social conditions, community concerns and realities of life in St Paul’s and Easton.
The 2006 documentary returns to Watershed two decades after its original screening, accompanied by poetry and stories from Lawrence’s work.
The evening will also celebrate Hoo’s wider contribution to art, equality, education and talent development in Bristol.
Poets Malizah and Keyanne will perform, while DJs Ray Mighty, Wayne Irie, Selecta Watson and Rob Morris will provide music afterwards.
Lawrence later co-founded CARGO with Chaz Golding, creating new ways to recognise and teach African and African Diaspora contributions to history.
