Unseen: Screening of Kuumba Centre’s Video Archive

Wednesday 21st October 2026

Historic footage from Bristol’s Kuumba Centre will return to the screen for a special Black History Month evening celebrating the city’s Black cultural and community heritage.

Black South West Network and The UnMuseum are working to preserve and digitise historic video recordings from the Kuumba Centre archive.

Kuumba has played an important role in Bristol’s Black cultural life, providing a home for African and African-Caribbean arts, performance, education and community activity.

The screening provides an opportunity to see material from the archive while also helping to identify people, places and events captured in the recordings.

People with connections to Kuumba are particularly encouraged to attend, share memories and contribute knowledge that can help preserve the history represented on screen.

The evening is also an opportunity to recognise the importance of community archives in ensuring Black British history is recorded and passed on to future generations.

The event runs from 6pm to 9pm.

Admission is free.
