Neneh & Andi: 45 Years of Friendship, Family and Food

Thursday 2nd July 2026

Singer-songwriter Neneh Cherry and broadcaster, chef and author Andi Oliver come together at the British Library for an evening exploring friendship, family and food across more than four decades.

Friends since the early 1980s, the pair first connected as members of the band Rip Rig + Panic and have remained close ever since. Over the years, their lives have intertwined through music, broadcasting and shared personal experiences, from raising families to navigating loss and change.

This live discussion reflects on their journey together, drawing on stories shaped by their diverse cultural backgrounds, including connections to Sweden, West Africa, Jamaica, Britain and the United States. Food plays a central role in their story, reflecting both heritage and the ways in which cooking and sharing meals have connected their lives.

Chaired by writer and broadcaster Melissa Thompson, the event forms part of the British Library’s Food Season 2026, which brings together leading voices to explore the cultural, social and political stories behind food.

The evening offers a personal and reflective conversation, combining storytelling, cultural insight and discussion in an intimate live setting.
