UK Reparations Conference 2023

Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October

The APPG is very pleased to announce its inaugural Reparations Conference, bringing together campaigns, institutions, and individuals to discuss the issue of reparations for the transatlantic kidnap, trafficking, enslavement, colonisation and continued exploitation of Africans and people of African descent across the world.

Registration is now open for this two-day interactive conference, which is taking place between Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd October 2023 at Friends House, 173-177 Euston Road, London (NW1 2BJ).

The conference will be co-chaired by Dr. Julius Garvey, academic, activist, and son of The Right Excellent Marcus Garvey alongside Britain’s first Black woman MP, the Rt. Hon. Diane Abbott. It will be free to attend and will feature sessions on a range of policy issues as they relate to reparatory justice – from the restitution of artefacts to land rights, education, employment, environmental justice, economics, law, culture, and many other areas beside.

Other speakers will include international government representatives, national and international dignitaries, Independent UN experts, campaigners, academics, Members of Parliament, legal experts, and youth voices.

The APPG will be outlining a full programme of sessions in due course but in the meantime, you can keep up to date with news about the conference on social media.
