Sir Lenny Henry comes to Cardiff during Black History Month 2026 with Still At Large, a new live show combining stand-up comedy, personal storytelling and reflections on a career spanning more than five decades.
Part performance and part conversation with himself and the audience, the show sees Lenny return to the experiences that shaped him while exploring the ideas, challenges and creative influences that continue to drive his work.
From his early beginnings in entertainment to becoming one of Britain’s most recognisable comedians, actors and campaigners, Lenny reflects on the characters, performances and decisions that have defined his public life.
The evening looks back at the unforgettable years of The Lenny Henry Show and the much-loved television comedy Chef!, while also exploring his development as a dramatic actor.
His stage career has included acclaimed Shakespearean roles such as Othello, while more recent screen work has introduced him to a new international audience through productions including The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Throughout the show, Lenny considers the many different versions of himself that audiences have encountered: the comedian, impressionist, actor, writer, presenter, fundraiser and what he describes as a stand-up anecdotalist.
Alongside the laughter, Still At Large offers a thoughtful reflection on creativity, identity and the experiences that continue to influence one of Britain’s most significant Black entertainers.
Lenny’s career has also been closely connected with social change. As a co-founder of Comic Relief, he helped create one of Britain’s most successful fundraising initiatives. He has also been a prominent campaigner for greater diversity and representation across television, film and the wider creative industries.
His Cardiff appearance provides an opportunity to hear directly from a performer who has played an important role in British popular culture while continually challenging the limited opportunities historically offered to Black artists.
Audiences can expect an evening filled with comedy, warmth, honesty and memories from an extraordinary career — as well as Lenny’s reflections on the work, people and creative possibilities that continue to inspire him today.
