Lovers Rock Brunch – Black History Month Edition celebrates one of the most distinctive musical styles to emerge from Britain’s Caribbean communities with an afternoon of food, music and culture.
Presented by KAS Promotions, the Black History Month edition places Lovers Rock at the centre of a social celebration honouring culture, heritage and the music that provided the soundtrack to generations of Black British life.
Lovers Rock developed in Britain during the 1970s, combining reggae rhythms with romantic vocals and becoming particularly associated with young Black British audiences.
Artists including Janet Kay, Carroll Thompson and Louisa Mark helped establish a sound that was recognisably British while drawing strongly on Jamaican musical traditions.
Its influence extends beyond individual records. Lovers Rock formed part of the cultural world created by Black Britons at a time when mainstream venues, broadcasters and cultural institutions did not always provide spaces for Black music and audiences.
The brunch brings that musical heritage into a contemporary setting, combining Lovers Rock with Caribbean food, games and a relaxed social atmosphere.
Taking place during Black History Month 2026, the event provides an opportunity to celebrate a musical tradition that remains an important part of Britain’s Black cultural history.
