Sol & The Gang

Tuesday 20th October 2026

Sol & The Gang brings R&B, hip-hop, soul and Afrobeats together for a high-energy Glasgow show led by singer, songwriter and choreographer J-Sol.

The hand-picked group of singers, musicians and dancers takes audiences on a musical journey stretching from Motown to contemporary Black popular music, combining familiar songs with new original material and tightly choreographed live performance.

The breadth of that programme makes the show particularly appealing during Black History Month.

The history of Black popular music is not a single genre or sound.

Soul emerged from earlier gospel and rhythm-and-blues traditions; hip-hop transformed music through MCing, DJ culture, sampling and production; while Afrobeats represents a contemporary global movement drawing energy from West African popular music and international influences.

These traditions developed in different places and at different times, but their influence now runs throughout global popular culture.

Sol & The Gang brings several generations of that story together on one stage.

Led by J-Sol, whose career combines singing, songwriting, choreography and entertainment, the ensemble is designed as a full live experience rather than a conventional tribute act. The emphasis is on musicianship, vocals, movement and the connection between performers and audience.

For Glasgow audiences, the result promises an accessible celebration of Black music across generations.

Listeners might arrive for Motown and soul, contemporary R&B or Afrobeats, but the show demonstrates how those sounds sit within a continuing story of musical innovation.

Taking place in the heart of October, Sol & The Gang should appeal to anyone looking for a Black History Month night out built around music, dancing and live performance rather than a formal historical programme.
