Bernardine Evaristo Mr Loverman

Tuesday 30 October 7pm.

Chosen for this year’s Elthamread, this book is a ground-breaking exploration of Britain’s older Caribbean community. Bernardine grew up in Woolwich and attended Eltham Hill Girls Grammar School for seven years before enrolling at Greenwich Young People’s Theatre and studying at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama. She latterly earned her doctorate in Creative Writing at Goldsmiths, University of London. She is now an award-winning author of eight books of fiction and verse fiction. Her other writing includes short fiction, drama, poetry, essays, literary criticism, and projects for stage and radio. As a longstanding advocate for the inclusion of writers and artists of colour, she has founded a number of schemes to help aspiring writers. The event will include a pop-up bookshop run by The Blackheath Bookshop (Waterstone’s).

Elthamread will be launched at the beginning of October with various events through the month to explore ideas and themes in the book.
