Detroit saxophonist Houston Patton makes his Toulouse Lautrec debut with an evening celebrating the Black composers who have shaped jazz around the world.
Fresh from Detroit and newly arrived in London, saxophonist Houston Patton brings his quartet to Toulouse Lautrec for a special Black History Month performance.
Across the evening, Patton and his fellow musicians will explore music influenced by a range of jazz traditions, celebrating the composers behind the music and the new voices carrying their legacy forward.
The programme will combine works by Black composers from around the world with Patton’s own original compositions, creating a musical conversation between jazz history and its continuing evolution.
Audiences can expect an evening shaped by jazz, funk, soul and swing, led by Patton on alto and tenor saxophone.
About Houston Patton
Following in his father’s footsteps, Houston Patton began playing saxophone at an early age.
His development as a musician was shaped by the mentorship of Harry Patton, Daryl Beebe, Jordan VanHemert, Wendell Harrison and Andrew Bishop.
Patton graduated from the University of Michigan in December 2024 with a BFA in Jazz and Contemporary Improvisation.
In February 2025, he became the youngest bandleader to host a residency at Cliff Bell’s, Detroit’s historic jazz club.
He released Nomination with his band Hidden Nomination in May 2026 before moving to London in September.
This performance marks Patton’s Toulouse Lautrec debut and introduces London audiences to a rising musician whose work is grounded in Detroit’s jazz tradition while looking towards the music’s future.
