Sudanese-Canadian poet, singer and songwriter Mustafa joins Dua Lipa for a special London Literature Festival conversation centred on poetry, memory and his collection Nour.
Known internationally for music that combines intimate storytelling with poetry and song, Mustafa has developed a distinctive creative voice shaped by faith, family, grief, migration and the experiences of the Sudanese diaspora.
At the heart of this event is Nour, a body of writing that brings poetry into conversation with the personal and cultural influences that have shaped his work.
Mustafa grew up in Toronto’s Regent Park neighbourhood in a Sudanese Muslim family and began writing poetry while still young. His work has since moved across spoken word, music and literature, often reflecting on friendship, loss, community and the lives of young Black Muslim men.
His poetry and songwriting are particularly concerned with preserving memory: of people, neighbourhoods and relationships that might otherwise disappear from public view.
For Black History Month audiences, the event provides an opportunity to explore contemporary African diaspora writing through an artist whose work crosses traditional boundaries between poetry and music.
In conversation with Dua Lipa, Mustafa will discuss the poems and writers that have moved him, the creation of Nour and the relationship between written language and musical expression.
The event also reflects the increasingly fluid nature of contemporary Black literature, where poetry, performance and music frequently overlap and writers move between page, stage and recording studio.
Mustafa’s work offers a particularly powerful perspective on Black Muslim identity, migration, grief and community, connecting individual experience with wider questions about belonging and cultural inheritance.
Dua Lipa & Mustafa: Nour takes place at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, on Saturday 24th October 2026 at 8:00pm as part of the London Literature Festival.
