Celebrate Black History Month with an uplifting evening of gospel music, massed voices, rhythm and the magnificent sound of a full orchestra.
Brixton Chamber Orchestra brings Gospel Orchestrated to Streatham Hill Theatre for one huge night celebrating the history, power and continuing influence of gospel music.
Headlining the evening is MOBO Award-winning gospel singer Lurine Cato, one of the UK’s leading gospel voices, with special guest Isaiah Raymond.
They will be joined by Brixton Chamber Orchestra’s 40-piece orchestra, a live gospel band and the College of Gospel Choir, under the direction of Choirmaster Lascelles Haughton.
Together, the musicians and singers will fill the historic Streatham venue with massed voices, strings, brass, woodwind and live rhythm in the unmistakable style of Brixton Chamber Orchestra.
Gospel Orchestrated celebrates gospel as a living musical tradition—rooted in faith, migration, resistance and joy, and continually reshaped across African, Caribbean, British and American cultures.
Audiences can expect a powerful programme bringing together classic gospel music, contemporary sounds and new compositions created for the concert.
At the centre of the evening is the extraordinary power of gospel singing: communal, uplifting, rhythmically charged and created to be experienced live.
Gospel has shaped generations of musical artists and influenced soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, rock, pop and contemporary dance music. This concert celebrates that rich heritage while showcasing the continuing creativity and diversity of gospel music in Britain today.
The performance also recognises gospel’s important place within Black communities, where music has long provided a source of faith, hope, testimony, healing, resistance and collective joy.
Presented as part of Streatham Festival 2026 and Black History Month, the concert promises to be a joyful celebration of one of the world’s most influential musical traditions.
