Get dancing and celebrate Windrush Day to the sound of a 35-piece big band, joined on vocals by Aswad’s Brinsley Forde. This is a celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Windrush, a generational moment that shaped the future of so many lives, changed forever how Britain looked, and began a journey that made sure the whole world heard the sounds and voice of Jamaica. As well as Brinsley Forde, the group are accompanied by the sweet, sweet sounds of Dem Three on backing vocals. The Jazz Jamaica All Stars Choir, led by Mark De-Lisser, are also bringing their voices to this wonderful celebration. Jazz Jamaica All Stars have delighted audiences across the country with their jazz-reggae take on an extensive repertoire, including on tour with Hugh Masekela in 2004, when they marked the 10th anniversary of democracy in South Africa. Their most recent projects – Catch A Fire and The Trojan Story – saw the band inviting community choirs to share the stage with them in a joyous celebration of Jamaican music. Tonight’s show continues this tradition, bringing fun, community and beautiful harmonies to the Southbank Centre.
