Preston’s Caribbean Community: Including the Pain of Enduring the Windrush

Preston’s Caribbean community has lived in Preston for over 70 years.

 

Clinton Smith will tell the stories of the challenges they faced and their successes in their goals of social integrations and a settled family life enabling a full contribution to wider society.

Clinton will include the impact of the more recent Windrush scandal on those who were vulnerable despite having lived in Preston all their lives. The community has shown determination and resilience and has made a positive contribution to the social, political, and economic development in and beyond Preston.

In 2012 Elaine Marshall was invested as an Honorary Burgess of Preston. the first Caribbean person to be a Guild Burgess.
