This Black History Month join Reimagining Lincolnshire and the University of Lincoln Student Union on a Black History Trail of Lincoln.
Reimagining Lincolnshire is a public history project that was initiated at the University of Lincoln in late 2020. Co-investigators include heritage professionals, teachers and researchers from a wide range of organisations in the region.
Our Black History trail seeks to open up our past, to show that extensive international connections stretch back over many centuries in Lincoln. This resulted in a social diversity and global knowledge that was not exceptional but the norm in our city.
Some key stories highlighted on the trail include that of RAF veterans such as Sidney Mcfarlane and Billy Strachan, performers such as Jimi Hendrix and Ira Aldridge and footballers such as John Walker and John Fashanu.
Join us as we celebrate black contributions, stories and resilience, as we walk through the streets of Lincoln.
Please meet outside the University library entrance.
