October Half Term: African Djembe Drumming for Ages 2–6

Celebrate Black History Month with a lively and interactive African djembe drumming workshop created especially for children aged two to six.

Mangotree Kids invites young children and their families to discover the sounds and rhythms of the djembe drum through storytelling, music, dance and movement.

This year’s workshop explores the importance of the djembe as a form of communication. Through an interactive story, children will discover how drums can be used to share messages while experimenting with different rhythms.

The session has a playful animal theme, with children encouraged to move and drum like different animals. Expect a colourful, energetic and engaging introduction to African music and culture designed for younger children.

The sessions are expected to take place outdoors in the beautiful surroundings of Morden Hall Park. An indoor space will be available if the weather is unsuitable, so families should bring comfortable clothing appropriate for both indoor and outdoor activities.

Mangotree Kids has spent more than 25 years championing inclusivity in early-years education. Its workshops use music, movement, storytelling and cultural experiences to bring children together.

Tickets cost £10 per child or £15 for one child and a participating adult.

Because the number of drums is limited, only adults with a participating-adult ticket can join the drumming. Other accompanying adults are welcome to attend but will be asked to sit beside the session.

The meeting point is the bridge next to the Snuff Mill building, where a volunteer will welcome participants.

The location is accessible. Booking is essential.
