Soul II Soul brings one of the most influential sounds in modern Black British music to Newcastle.
Led by Jazzie B, the collective grew out of North London’s sound-system culture before achieving international success with hits including Keep on Movin’ and Back to Life.
Their music combined reggae, soul, funk, dance and Caribbean sound-system traditions to create a distinctly British sound that helped transform club culture during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Soul II Soul’s story forms an important chapter in Black British music, demonstrating how Caribbean musical traditions developed within Britain and went on to influence audiences around the world.
Taking place during Black History Month, the Newcastle concert offers the chance to experience the music of a group whose influence continues across British soul, dance and electronic music.
